I was wondering what I was going to post about for Earth Day (Happy Earth Day) when I got an email in my inbox from Urban Outfitters and it sparked a thought. I LOVE their Urban Renewal project, I even have a shirt on Replay that's from it. In case you've never heard of it, Urban Renewal is where Urban Outfitters takes vintage, deadstock, and surplus materials and constructs new clothing from it. Now I'm not entirely sure of their practices, although I'd like to believe their pretty green since it's a "green idea" but I'm not entirely sure. I do know sometimes they are items like curtains, table cloths and other materials that they use to make their one of a kind items.
If you've never checked out their Urban Renewal items, then I highly recommend doing so. It's one way a larger company is reusing materials and creating unique items you can't find anywhere else. Pretty cool if you ask me.
