Dear Mississippi,

Thank you for rejecting Initiative 26!  You have made me so proud today, and I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am to have you in my life.  I know a lot of people see this state as a backward, hillbilly, extremely right-winged, religious mess, but you aren't any of that.  Sure, you have people here who are extreme, uneducated, racist, and downright ridiculous, but you also have many educated, forward thinking, loving people.  Let's face it, that's life and everywhere deals with such differences.

Growing up I cursed living here.  I saw only the negative aspects of you, but as I got older I came to appreciate your beauty, your history, and your amazing ability to produce so many great people and things.  I wouldn't be the person I am today, nor would I have the values, appreciation, and love that you have taught me.  This state might have conflicting sides, but we are moving forward.  This state will do amazing things because all great places have their share of pitfalls.  We must forgive our past blunders, and move forward.  Today Mississippi, you climbed a rung on a ladder to greatness.  Sure, things haven't changed much, but today we preserved our rights and our freedoms, and that's a huge deal.

I truly can't express how proud of you I am.  Cheers, Mississippi!
