The Friday night before Christmas 2016 (of course, the year of shit) I had food poisoning. Luckily, I had gotten over it by Saturday to drive to Birmingham to spend Christmas with family. Saturday, Sunday, Monday- pretty OK, still was taking it easy with what I ate.
The following Monday I got some KeVita Kombucha thinking the probiotics would help. I had lunch and I ate conservatively. For dinner I had some chicken and rice. All was well, I was sitting on the floor playing with my sister, and I felt a little off, but not terrible.
Next thing I know my intestines started to have a dull pain and I started to throw up. I spent most of the night in the worst pain I've ever experienced. My mom had some Kombucha, too. She wasn't feeling well either and looked it up. Apparently, that stuff can make things much worse in some instances and I was one of those instances.
The following WEEK I suffered from abdominal pain, throwing up, diarrhea, weight loss, and overall misery, and so did my mother. I believe the Kombucha aggravated an already hostile situation in my gut, and made ordinary food poisoning go from awful to extremely awful.
I know some people love this stuff like it's crack, but I do think it's good to be aware of this. When we did some research it said to start off with 1 to 2 tablespoons, not a 16 oz drink. The fact that there is no warning of any kind on any of the Kombucha I've ever had is outrageous to me, especially after experiencing this.
My point in posting this is to warn people to be very careful with Kombucha. I've had it before and never had anything negative happen. I thought the good bacteria would help, but it set off a world war in my gut that I battled with for well over a week.
Honestly, never going to drink it again.
